Sagittarius myth
The centaur Chiron was half man and half horse and lived in the hills and forests of Thrace with his tribe of fellow centaurs. As leader and King of the centaurs, Chiron was widely known for his wisdom regarding life, nature and human behavior.
He was known as a sage, teacher and philosopher. The gods who valued his wisdom, granted him immortality as a reward.
Chiron was wounded by a poisoned arrow. The poison was deadly, but since he could not die from mortal wounds he stayed alive. His wound could not be healed and caused him great pain and discomfort.
He increases his wisdom by becoming a healer through learning about herbs and magic in order to heal his own wound, yet he cannot heal himself.
The symbolism and meaning of the Sagittarius myth:
Chiron is truly a noble but tragic figure. The parody between being an immortal creature but being mortally wounded gives us a glimpse into the true meaning of Sagittarius.
His deadly wound represents the difference between his godlike state and his mortal, ordinary Joe next door state. This is a sign of great intuition and vision that is caught up in an ordinary life with ordinary day to day problems.
On a deeper, subconscious level Sagittarius is aware that everything is meaningful, and that every aspect of life has a purpose and offers a lesson to be learnt and potential for growth. The wound represents his inability to overcome his mundane life to reach that divine level of himself that his instinct tells him is just there out of reach.
It is interesting to note that some Sagittarius persons can be a bit clumsy, either verbally or physically – it is after all not easy to maneuver a horse’s body when human!
The more immature Sagittarius person will jump from one exciting event to another, never wanting to be alone, always trying to be busy to avoid feeling the pain of that loss. It takes real courage and wisdom to face the duality of his vision and the reality of his life.
If he manages this somehow, he will truly be blessed and become the true healer and sage. He will master one of the most sacred gifts and that is to feel sincere compassion so that healing can take place.
