Perfect picnic desserts are the perfect ending to a great picnic, especially if you add a romantic twist to it. If you are in search of delicious dessert ideas, try my easy picnic dessert recipes below.
Really easy picnic dessert recipes
These dessert recipes are great if you need to impress but need recipes that are quick and really easy.
Most of them are summer dessert recipes since that is the time for picnics.
Let start with the most classic and easy romantic picnic dessert:
Dip fresh strawberries in melted dark or milk chocolate. Let it harden and pack carefully. Keep them cool and eat within 6 hours of making.
To add a little kick to this dessert you can inject your strawberries (before dipping) with your favorite liquor.
If you like the taste of ginger - dip candied ginger pieces into chocolate and serve with the strawberries.
S’mores as dessert are fun, decadent, messy, involves fiddling and licking: – the ideal romantic (come closer and help me lick my fingers) picnic dessert.
Keep in mind that you need a fire or some kind of flame to melt your marshmallows.
These are the usual culprits but be creative with your own variations of yummy favorites:
A Peanut butter cookie dessert recipe that is so easy it should be illegal:
1 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky) Half cup granulated sugar 1 large egg sugar, for rolling (optional)
Mix all the ingredients until smooth. Use two teaspoons to place your mixture on a cookie sheet. Press with fork until flat (so that the cookies can cook through) Bake at 350 for about 10-12 minutes. Don’t over bake or brown.
A cheese platter as dessert with fruit can be a stylish end to a romantic picnic. Wrap each cheese separately and keep them in your cool box. Place them on a flat platter about a half hour before eating so that they can breath. (2-3 cheeses are enough if your are on a budget)
Any of the following fruits will do nicely: figs, grapes, pears, apples, pineapple or even celery sticks.
Picnic desserts that requires a bit more effort but that is still very easy to make:
Place the gelatin and cold milk (just enough to over the gelatin) in a small bowl and let this mixture sit for about 5 - 10 minutes.
Bring the cream to the boil with the vanilla pod (or use vanilla essence) and sugar.
Once the sugar has dissolved add the gelatin and milk mix and keep stirring until it has all melted.
Add the cream mixture to the yogurt and mix. Pour into ramekins or pretty small cups and refrigerate.
Keep in your cool box until serving time.
Garnish with this dessert with yummy looking fruit such as figs, strawberries or grapes.
Mini Chocolate Raspberry Tartlets
1/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips 2 tablespoons butter 2 (3-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup marshmallow cream 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream 1 tablespoon powdered sugar 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 30 frozen mini filo shells, thawed 10 minutes 30 raspberries
(Prep Time: 20 minutes) Melt chocolate chips and butter in a small microwave bowl, let it cool for 15 minutes.
In medium bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth; gradually beat in melted chocolate mixture.
Beat in the marshmallow cream. In another small bowl, combine cream with powdered sugar and vanilla; beat until stiff peaks form. Fold into chocolate mixture.
Pipe into filo shells; top each with a raspberry. Serve immediately or cover and chill up to 4 hours.
Champagne Sorbet (Prep Time: 15 minutes)
1/2 pint mixed berry sorbet or any flavor fruit sorbet 1 cups raspberries or blueberries or champagne grapes Good quality champagne (or sparkling apple or pear cider)
Use any fresh fruit as long as the flavor matches the sorbet.
Spoon sorbet into two parfait or martini glasses. (any pretty glasses will do) Divide berries evenly over sorbet. Pour the champagne carefully and slowly over the berries and serve immediately.
Pack your ingredients in separate containers on ice in your cool box and put it all together with your partners help. The champagne pouring bit can be a lot of fun because of the delicious fizzing complication.
3 eggs, beaten 1/4 cup sugar 1/8 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2-1/2 cups whole milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, mix eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla until well blended. Add milk and mix with a wire whisk until smooth. Pour into custard cups. Place the cups in oven pan and place in oven. Fill pan around the cups with about 1" of water, being careful to not splash any water into the custard cups. Bake for 45-55 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Serve this dessert warm or cold. Refrigerate for your picnic.
Rich chocolate mousse
140g vanilla sugar 3 whole eggs, separated, plus 3 extra egg yolks 1 tbsp cocoa powder 200ml double cream 85g unsalted butter, cubed 225g dark chocolate, broken into pieces 1 tbsp Armagnac (optional)
Put 55g of the sugar, all 6 egg yolks, the cocoa powder and the cream together in a bowl and set the bowl over a saucepan of simmering water.
Whisk the mixture continuously until it thickens enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon.
Remove from the heat and add the butter and chocolate pieces, a little at a time, whisking until melted and fully incorporated.
Stir in the armagnac. (or not)
Whisk the egg whites until frothy. Add the remaining sugar a little at a time, and continue to whisk until the mixture is thick and glossy and meringue-like.
Fold the meringue lightly but thoroughly into the chocolate mixture.
Spoon the mixture into a large serving bowl or individual glasses and refrigerate until set.
Decorate with a swirl of whipped cream and some grated chocolate.
Keep on ice in your cool box until serving time.
