The basic love letter

Expressing your feelings on paper can be very difficult. To help you with this, I have compiled a list of tips on how to write a basic love letter.

Follow the tips below and you just might end up with a very special love letter to surprise your partner with! This is the basic love letter basics:

Use good stationary:

A love letter has a certain timeless quality about it. In keeping with this tradition use good quality paper, preferably a neutral white or a plain color. Avoid paper with a heart/cupid/flowery edge. Make your letter personal by writing it by hand. Practice on scrap paper before you start writing on your good stationery.

Date:

Always put a date on your letter. (day, month, year) A love letter is a very special keepsake and we tend to go back to them every now and then and you will want to be able to know the date that your loved one sent you this.

The greeting:

Always start your love letter with a term of endearment. If you are new to the relationship starting with: “Dear ……” is a good beginning.

If you have been together for a while, try any of the following:
“My darling ..........”,
“My dearest ……….”,
“My sweetheart ……….”,
“To my darling ……….”,
“My beloved ……….”

Introduction:

An easy and natural introduction paragraph is to state the reason you are writing this letter. You could say: “I have been wanting to tell you how much you mean to me for a while but …” or even: “I sometimes find it difficult to put my feelings into words but you mean so much to me that ….” or: “You have make me feel so special when you …. that I want to …..”

Content:

The body of your love letter should focus on your love for your partner. Use any of the idea’s listed below to inspire you:

- when did you fall in love with your partner? How did it all start?

- why did you fall for your partner? Define what you admire and love best about your partner. What is it that set him apart from everyone else?

- describe how wonderful and complete she makes you feel.

- what is your favorite memory of the two of you? Recall some of the special moments you two have spend together.

- recall something romantic your partner has done for you. Is there something he does on a regular basis that lets you know that you are loved?

- reflect on how your world has changed since you came together and how much happiness he has brought into your life.

- tell her that you can’t imagine a life without her in it and how much you miss her when you are apart from each other.- tell him how he pleasantly surprised you by ….

- paint a picture with words about how you see the future you can have together.

- add a romantic poem or the lyrics of a song that has special meaning for you.

Closing:

End your love letter with a final declaration of your love. Try any of the following:
“All my love”,
“Yours always”,
“Your are my dream come true”,
"I will love you always",
"Loving you forever",
"My heart is yours".

Sign your name.

Your personal signature:

To make your letter really personal, stamp it with your very own, very personal signature: a drop of your favorite perfume/cologne or even seal your letter with a lipstick kiss.
